Not stupid, just lazy

What if tomorrow your friend came up to you and said, "good news man, you never have to learn anything ever again, all you need are three words to explain everything you can't understand."  Would you jump on that?  Or, would you simply reply that you like to learn and are glad that we don't have all of the answers yet?  If you are like me, you would more than likely give the second answer.

Why do people refuse to learn?  What are three little words good enough for them?  Are they stupid?  I don't think so, I think they are just lazy.  Here is why I believe so.

If you hear or read something and take it at face value, you didn't have to do much work.  It's pretty easy.  Here's an example........ What if I told you that the reason why the sky is blue is because that is the only color left after the light spectrum enters our atmosphere?  Would you just believe me and move on or would you look into it yourself with a fresh, skeptical mind?  Hopefully you wouldn't take my word for it and actually learn about Rayleigh scattering yourself and see that I was wrong, even though what I had said sounded as if it could have been right.  Just because something sounds correct, doesn't mean that it is.  You have to look at everything in life as a possibility or probability and know that almost nothing is 100% certain.

Some people refuse to do the last step and just take everything at face value.  They could read one paper that says that rainbows contain the color burgundy, believe it's the truth and say the other 10,000 that have the correct colors are wrong.  There is only one subject that is 100% fact, and that is math.  That is why we call things theories, because they are subject to change.  Gravity seems pretty constant but we all know the day after we start calling it a law, someone will observe a body falling up and blow it all to hell.  Is it impossible for somethign to fall up?  No but, it is improbable.

Now I'm off of my tangent......the whole purpose of this was to ask you, the reader to not be lazy.  Do all of your own research and don't listen to anything anyone tells you unless it can be backed up by imperical evidence.  In my post, "Letter to a Christian," I threw some things in there that were not true just to get him to do some research on his own.  He didn't and dismissed all of it as b.s. even though some of it is true.  Just remember, we are a species that has lasted this long because we can learn and build on our knowledge.   don't let anything stand in your way to better yourself and our species.

Also, those three little words are never the answer, don't be lazy.
