Not stupid, just lazy

What if tomorrow your friend came up to you and said, "good news man, you never have to learn anything ever again, all you need are three words to explain everything you can't understand."  Would you jump on that?  Or, would you simply reply that you like to learn and are glad that we don't have all of the answers yet?  If you are like me, you would more than likely give the second answer.

Why do people refuse to learn?  What are three little words good enough for them?  Are they stupid?  I don't think so, I think they are just lazy.  Here is why I believe so.

If you hear or read something and take it at face value, you didn't have to do much work.  It's pretty easy.  Here's an example........ What if I told you that the reason why the sky is blue is because that is the only color left after the light spectrum enters our atmosphere?  Would you just believe me and move on or would you look into it yourself with a fresh, skeptical mind?  Hopefully you wouldn't take my word for it and actually learn about Rayleigh scattering yourself and see that I was wrong, even though what I had said sounded as if it could have been right.  Just because something sounds correct, doesn't mean that it is.  You have to look at everything in life as a possibility or probability and know that almost nothing is 100% certain.

Some people refuse to do the last step and just take everything at face value.  They could read one paper that says that rainbows contain the color burgundy, believe it's the truth and say the other 10,000 that have the correct colors are wrong.  There is only one subject that is 100% fact, and that is math.  That is why we call things theories, because they are subject to change.  Gravity seems pretty constant but we all know the day after we start calling it a law, someone will observe a body falling up and blow it all to hell.  Is it impossible for somethign to fall up?  No but, it is improbable.

Now I'm off of my tangent......the whole purpose of this was to ask you, the reader to not be lazy.  Do all of your own research and don't listen to anything anyone tells you unless it can be backed up by imperical evidence.  In my post, "Letter to a Christian," I threw some things in there that were not true just to get him to do some research on his own.  He didn't and dismissed all of it as b.s. even though some of it is true.  Just remember, we are a species that has lasted this long because we can learn and build on our knowledge.   don't let anything stand in your way to better yourself and our species.

Also, those three little words are never the answer, don't be lazy.

Toys "R" Us Kid

Some days I wish I could go back to the days where M&Ms were currency and the biggest decision I had to make was wether I wanted Jello or pudding in my lunch.  Now it's all about, work, debt, voting, jury duty and time management.  I miss the old me.

I just want to take a day off work with my friends and build a fort or go to the zoo.  I would give my right arm for my folks to have to sign a permission slip for me to go to a museum again.  Making choices for myself kind of sucks.  They call it "growing up".  I say 'screw that'.  You can take your responsability and shove it in your you know where.  I just want to eat some grahm crackers and take a nap while someone reads me a story.

Remember the day when you could eat anything you wanted and not gain  pound?  Or even that putting on weight was a good thing.  Now we have to count calories and carbohydrates.  I want to drink soda and eat pizza with every topping imaginable without the thought of what it's goin to do to my cholesterol level.

I propose an "inner child day".  A day where all of us adults go to the park and play on the monkey bars or swings.  A day where we can go to a store and pick out candy instead of picking out the correct letter-head.  A day for unbridled happiness like we used to have on Christmas morning.  Anyone else with me on this?

Leave a comment to propose a date for our day.  As of right now, I'm thinking June 1st.  The perfect time of year to spend a day outdoors with your friends.

Until next time remember, age is only a number.  True youth comes from within.

Neurology 101

When it comes to things like religion or faith, there are 2 types of people.  Those who believe in what they think due to evidence or revelation and those that believe it just because that's what they've always been taught.  Why is this?  Well, hopefully this will help you understand.

Before I get started I would like to say that this blog was influenced by a friend of mine.  Though we don't see eye-to-eye on the basis of religion, neither of us seem to mind.  Actually, I feel it necessary to appologise to her for being harsh and rude when it was absolutely uncalled for.  All she has ever done is shown me understanding and kindness.  It's because of this that I've changed the way that I talk about matters of faith.  Less combative and more factual.

Now, to answer my question.

Ever heard of someone being either left brained or right?  Well, this stands true with faith as well.  Through studies in neurology we see that some people, like myself, are mentally incapable of the idea of faith.  Everything we believe has to be based off of facts derived from the scientific method.  Things that can't be tested hold no water to us.  On the other side you have people who don't need to see to believe.  They can simply look around and know what they feel is real.  Does this mean they are incapable of logic?  No.  Quite the opposite.  For them it would be illogical for them NOT to believe.  Does this make them wrong?  No.  It just makes our two groups different.

Lastly are those that value things just based off of tradition.  They never question anything because they were taught not to.  Kind of reminds me of the Waterboy, "mama said."  Are they wrong?  I'd have to say, no again.  I'm not making any accusations or speculations but, this may be a form of brainwashing.  Not in the sense of using a water board or made to look at images over and over but, if you hear the same thing enough times, you will believe it.  Just imagine if tomorrow somebody said that the sky was green.  Would you believe them?  Even if they had proof, would you just pass the person off as a nut-job without even listening to them first?  Most of us would say yes because we, "know" that the sky is blue, unless it's cloudy.

Neurology has taught us SO much about ourselves that we didn't know before.  What makes us happy, sad, angry, psychopathic, depressed and much more.  Most of all it has taught us why we are different from eachother.  Why someone is better at math than English or someone can  learn a foreign language but not an instrument.  And, why some of us can only see black and white and others can see that large grey area.  With more time we will be able to tell, when a child is born, exactly what they will be good at.  With this knowlege we will be able to put them into accelerator schools that just teach towards their strengths for a better work force for tomorrow.  Pretty interesting stuff.

I hope you learned something from this today.  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask for, I've only touched the very tip of this world changing topic.

Givin' it 200%

If you think that nothing can be more than 100%, you know nothing about the sport of Mixed Martial Arts.  It is 100% mental and 100% physical.  The reason I make this assertion is because when a fighter is in the ring, neither their mind or their body can drop below their full capabilities for even a second.  A lot of people think that the sport is "barbaric" but, the funny thing is, it never seems that way to those that choose to compete.

Like modern day Roman Gladiators they step out in front of the crowds willingly just to show the world what they are made of.  Every time they make the walk down the ramp of uncertainty, it is on par to a quarterback walking on the field for the "Big Game" (don't want to get sued) or the batter stepping up to the plate at bottom of the ninth with 2 men out.  It is a walk that lasts forever no matter what the outcome of what happens after entering the ring.

To be a fighter, one must be in relatively good shape, sharp witted and have a big heart.  You can't give up and win or lose you have to push yourself to get back into the ring next time.  I have seen a lot of fighters that have sluffed off after their first victory due to their giant heads and insane egos.  Many times the best fight comes after a loss.

Either way, win or lose, a true competitor is gracious after each bout.  It's not just a sign of good sportsmanship but, a sign that even though they like to inflict pain, they aren't a monster.  I commend everyone that has ever had the guts to do what these guys do.  From Ken Shamrock and Hoyce Gracie to the future Hall of Famer of tomorrow, thank you for the hours of entertainment.  Don't forget, Julius Caesar built the Great Colosseum of Rome to distract its people from the fact that they were at war.  Just like fight promoters put up rings to help distract us from the problems we have in our lives today.  Good luck to the brave few that strive to be the best in something that very few know so little about.

2 Stories from the South.....

This blog is going to be a little bit different from those that I have published in the past.  These are stories from the news that I, myself, have found somewhat, screwed up.

This first story was brought to the attention by a friend of mine.  I must sadly admit that I hadn't heard of this until this morning, even though it's been going on for months.  Granted it's based out of Tennessee, and I rarely give 2 shits about what those people are thinking, that may be why this one flew under my radar.

In the town of Murfreesboro, Tenn. (pop. 100,000) there is a controversy over a new Mosque being built.  Not just a Mosque though.  It will also be a rec-center, school and daycare center.  Much like the one proposed in New York.  From all of the testimonies of those that oppose the building of the Center, 95% of the whack-jobs are against it due to opposing religious beliefs.  The other 5% have perfectly rational arguments against the building site.  It is being put up in, what used to be, a fully residential area.  So, the intelligent 5% are worried about things like traffic and resale values of their home because they know dumbass rednecks don't want to live near a Mosque.

Many residents went to the Rutherford County court and tried to get them to overturn their decision to allow the building to go up.  The Court announced that they can not, legally, stop the building proposal based on religious beliefs.  So, in a last stitch effort, over the last 3 months, a group of "experts" which seemed to have gotten their credentials from a Cracker Jack box, put Islam under the microscope.  Yes, they asked, "Is Islam a religion?"  Of course it is you backwoods, sister banging morons.  Do we all agree with their beliefs?  No, but, it's still a religion.  The courts came to their decision on Oct. 18, that yes, Islam is a religion.  Really?  That took you 3 freakin months to figure out?  Congratulations to the Chancery Court for Rutherford County, for your next birthdays we'll take you to Chuck E' Cheese.

Now my second story, this one is a little bit more messed up.  Sorry ladies, in case you didn't know, men can be dicks.  not all of us but, a good majority.

My deepest sympathies go out to Meg Mclain.  If you don't live in New Hampshire, you've probably never heard of her.  She's a radio personality for a liberal radio show out of New Hampshire and a few days ago, our homeland security system let her down in a disgusting fashion.

Meg was on her way back home, flying out of Ft. Lauterdale airport in Florida.  She was "randomly selected" for a full body screening.  If you don't know what that is, it's where they strip you down to your underware and x-ray you.  She put up a resistance and said, "no".  Next thing she knew security was screaming, "Opt Out!!" and 12 Miami police officers with half of a dozen TSA agents were on her like a fat kid on an Easter Basket.  She looked over to see "Large Marge" standing there wearing very stylish blue gloves.

After her cavity search she was thrown into a chair, handcuffed to it, questioned then eventually had her ticket ripped up in her face.  All of the while she was wondering, "why me?"  Good question Meg, and I'm going to answer it for you in 2 words.  You're Gorgeous!  By Western standards Meg is a solid 9-9 1/2 and maybe a 12 on the Clydesdale scale.  At first she thought it may be because of her political views but, nope, it was her looks.  I mean, how random is a search where you pick out the best looking girl in line to see in their underware?

Well, I hope this helped enlighten you to the type of country we're becoming.  It's 1 thing to try to keep ourselves safe but, let's make sure our civil rights aren't being violated to accomplish this.

Letter to a Christian

You ask me why I don't believe in the same religion that you do but, I have a much better question for you.

Why do you believe in a deity when there is so much evidence against it?  I'm not saying anything like, the bible contradicts itself or, there is no physical evidence of your God.  What I mean is, there is a lot of evidence that proves that the New Testiment was written much later than Jesus' death and the Old Testiment contains stories that were basically ripped off from the Egyptians.

Here's my point/proof:

Like most deities, Jesus was born Dec. 25 to a virgin mother in a city called Bethlehem where 3 kings/wise men followed a bright star to the birth of Christ.  He perfomed miricles and had 12 deciples.  He was crucified and reddurected 3 days later.  With me so far?

Here's where it may get a bit confusing:

Mary is a reference to the astrological sign, Virgo or, the Virgin.  The symbol for Virgo is an M so, like all virgin mothers from all religions, Mary's name started with an M.  The Virgo sign also has another name, The House of Bread due to it's location where the sun passes in Aug-Sept. where people used to reap their grain and make bread.  Bethlehem's literal translation = House of Bread.  This is referring to the astrological sign, not an actual town.  The star from the East is called Sirius which is the brightest star in the sky.  On the night of Dec. 24 this star line up with the 3 starsof Orion's Belt known as the "Three Kings" and point directly to where the sun will rise on the 25th.  Also known as "The Birth of the Sun" because that's when days start to get longer and it's a sign of new life to come in the spring.

All deities have performed miracles so, to claim that Jesus was different would be rediculous.  But, quite a few also had "12" deciples.  Why is this?  This is the number of astrological signs there are.  So, Jesus being the Sun was followed by 12 men or the 12 astrological signs that the sun passes by every year.vvAs you probably know by being a scholor of the bible, the number 12 is quite previlent.  This is the reason for the significance of that number.

Now the crucifiction and ressurection.  On Dec. 22 the sun gets to its lowest point in the sky in the Northern Hemisphere.  It stays this way for 3 days.  Then on the 25th, it starts to move back up towards it's highest point.  So, it stays down for 3 days and then starts ascending.  Another thing is, during those 3 days the sun sits just under another astrological sign called the Southern Cross or (crux).  This is why so many deities before christ have been said to be crucified, dead for 3 days, resurrected,  than ascended towards the heavens.

So you see, Christianity is based off of Pagan beliefs and rituals.

As a side note, Moses was actually the 4th person ever recorded in any theology to go up a mountain, talk to God and come back with laws.  But, he is the second ever written about who was ever born, put into a reid basket and rasied by royalty.  The story of Noah is much the same.  It was originally from the Egyption story of Galgamesh that was written around 2600 bc.

If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Kids.....cute, lovable, expensive as hell

Yesterday on facebook, I asked foir help coming up with ideas for my blog.  One of which was, the price of raising a child.  We all know that kids are expensive, but worth it.  Since I know some people who in the last year or so had either their first or newest child, I thought that I would look into a few things for them.

I didn't realize that the more you make each year, the more your little bundle of joy costs to raise.  If you make under $40,000 a year as a combined 2 parent income, you're sitting on easy street.  Yeah right.  If my figures are right, it will still cost you over $135,000 to raise a child until they are old enough for you to kick them out on their ass and hope they go to college or learn, 'would you like fries with that?'

I stumbled upon a site which seemed really cool.  It actually has a "baby price calculator"
Link below:

http://www.babycenter.com/cost-of-raising-child-calculator

If you are one of the unfortunately ones that make over $100,000 a year, you're looking at $250,000 over 18 years to raise a kid.  In my opinion, that could buy a lot of jet-skis and strippers....I'm just sayin'.

We do this because we want to be able to show the best of ourselves in our offspring.  We never want to be the ones where people say, "child, it looks like nobody loves you." to our kids or, "who told you that?" usually because it's a stupid answer to an easy question.  We have to pamper, preen and press our child into a mold to make ourselves feel good.  By doing so you can see how far that checkbook can stretch and you may learn a few things along the way.  Like, interest on a $1000 title loan is insane.

Even though I joke around I believe that doing whatever it takes to make sure that our children have a happy and bright future is incredibly important.  After all, they ARE going to be running this country when we're old.  As a parting not, remember, take care of your kids, give them the best that you can and don't try to live outside your means.  Don't shop FAO Schwartz on a Wal-Mart budget.

Until next time......

If I ran for President....

People would ask me how I qualify to run a country.  My answer is, I don't want to run a country, I want to work for the country.  Many of our leaders have lost site of this.  They constantly forget what's best for the people and only seem to vote on things that are best for their party and friends.

If I ever became president, there would be a few policies that I would like to to see go through.  Here are a few of them:

1)  Fuck the rich....I know it may sound crude but, my language is nothing compared to the disgusting acts the top 1% have done to the American people over the last 30 years.  There are some exceptions but, I bet those would go along with increased taxes for their bracket to better our schools and public works programs.

2) Legalize it......that's right, legalize Marijuana for many different reasons.  First off, tax it as we already do for alcohol and cigarettes.  Take that money and put it into drug rehab centers for people who have problems with real drugs.  Secondly, hire scientists to look at the plant and come up with as many real world applications as we can for it including alternative fuels.  Lastly, along with the bill there would be another side.  Increased sentences for distribution of drugs like Cocaine, Meth and Heroin.  These are the real drugs that harm society.  I've never heard of someone knocking over a liquor store to get some weed.

3) Make sure that church and state stay seperate, no matter what........  No religion to be taught in schools and change the Pledge of Allegance back to it's pre-1950's form removing "Under God" all together.  Also, abolish dry counties in the south and the laws in a few of our states which proclaim that no Atheist may hold public office or defend themself in court.  If highscool kids want to form a religion club that meets before or after school or during lunch, that is fine.  Also, if you wish to hang a cross or some other religious relic at your desk at work, that is fine.  Just as long as it's not in a government run facility.  Just remember, if you hang your picture of Jesus, you can't get mad at the person behind you that hung a pentagram.

4)  Disband the FCC.......This will open up funds for programs and jobs that are actually needed.  The FCC is a bi-product of religion so, it has no place in our government.  If you don't like the language you see on a specific channel, change it.  I'm sure that the TV and radio stations will govern themselves just fine because they know if they go too over the top as it comes to lack of censorship, they may lose viewers.

5)  Reduce our military budget......I'm not talking about making us weaker, just closing foreign bases.  We don't need them any more and getting rid of bases in places like Germany could save us billions.

6)  Get them back on our side......Thanks to G.W. most of the world hates us and it would take some serious fucking PR work to change that.  Obama has started us in the right direction but, we need to do more.  As President I'd make sure that our allies knew that most of us hated Bush as much as they do.  I would also have to let them know that America as a whole wasn't to blame, just a few fuck-heads that had their own agenda.

If you can think of anything I've left out or do or don't agree with something I've said, please leave a comment.  Thank You

Jay's Quotables

If you want to see what someone is really like, don't look at their facebook profile, look at their pictures

The more friends you have on facebook/myspace, the less you have in real life

Baseball sex refrences make no sense to me.   Many times I've hit homeruns without touching any of the other bases

You can't fail if you don't try and you can't eventually succeed if you don't fail

Chances are if you're reading this, you probably had something better to do but are procrastinating

It's not the light that matters but, whom it illuminates

If a friend gets into it with someone, teach them how to fight.  Unless it's 10 on 2, then teach them how to run

Almost as funny as watching midgets run track

I tell you what, here's my address.  When you think of a comeback, mail it to me

I'd never call you stupid, that's an insult to those that look up to stupid people

If I'm not good at something, I'll let someone else do it.  If they're not good at it, I'll still let them do it and mock them later

Being a Christian and being Christ-Like are 2 totally different things

If I made as much as the Catholic Church, I'd hire Bill Gates to mow my lawn

Just because you said the same thing again only louder, doesn't make it any more right

Spraying more cologne/perfume on you doesn't make it smell better

Challenge everything, demand nothing and occasionally tease your friends

If Mattel came up with the Tickle Me Elmo idea first, everyone would love Barbie

Think for yourself or don't think at all

A great woman once said............

Religion can be a powerful tool

Even though I don't agree with many of the views held by the Catholic church, it does make me smile to know that they are allowing themselves to be progressive in some ways.  I don't agree that the Pope should be telling people in AIDS infested areas of Africa that condoms don't help and are a sin.  That right there can almost be construed as evil.  But, for the last 20 years or so, the Catholic church has succumbed to all the evidence and have come to the conclusion, evolution is real!

For the last 500+ years, speakers for the Catholic church have been looked to as a strong moral authority.  Whether it be a Bishop, Cardinal or Pope, their voices have been heard.  When used for something positive, this can be an overwhelminglypowerful tool.

Last night I was watching Michael Moore's documentary, "Capatilism: A Love Story", and a part of it caught my attention.  Some workers in Chicago refused to leave their closed down plant after being laid off.  They were somewhat noticed but, nowhere near the recognition they deserved.  It wasn't until after a local Bishop showed up that they started to get some real attention.  He lent his voice and his guidance to the cause and this of course stirred up quite a scene.  News traveled fast, all the way to the big man, President Obama.  He demanded justice for those 400+ employees and in just a few days, they got their severance.

Now, if all religious leaders applied their energy to doing similar good deeds, people would be able to trust the church again.  As of now all we see are the boy-banging Catholics, the Fundamental Christians that are trying to hold back science and the advancement of the human race, and those psychos from WBC that in my opinion, deserve to be thrown down into that mine in Chile.

So, if any of you have any ties to a powerful religious figurehead, please give them my message, as an atheist, I'm begging for them to look foreward and see what changes need to be made for the betterment of mankind.  Not just the interest of the church.  We may not see eye to eye all of the time but, religious or not you have to agree with me when I say, something's got to give.

Inspiration

Inspiration can come from many sources.  It can be brought on by life experiences both good, and bad.  Whether it comes from a song that makes you pick up and dust off your old guitar and want to play again.  Or, from the loss of a loved one that makes you look inward to see how you may increase your own longevity.  Now matter what, know that inspiration comes from within, whatever you feel, hear, see, taste or smell.

Whether or not what you seek is good or bad is completely up to you.  No one can truely dictate what you do, only show you consequences for your actions.  As time goes on you may realize what is best for society and that may be an inspiration in itself to change they way you think or act.  I myself never thought I'd be as outspoken or driven as I am today in reguards to the things I feel passionate about.  I was inspired by the actions and words of others who think as I do, care as I do so, why should I not speak like them?

My inspiration comes from, in my own opinion, a strong negative.  Now I hope to educate others and bring light to certain things that I feel are wrong in the world today.  So, I am taking a negative and hoping to flip it around and make a posative impact on this world.

If you look at yourself and see don't see someone that you want to be, start taking baby steps to get to where you want.  You'll never get there if you don't try.  You can't change the world all at once but, you never know how big of an impact you may make.  Let that be your inspiration, as it is mine.

Science Saved My Soul

Today I had the greatest of pleasure to watch an absolutely amazing video on YouTube.  Words can't really express the feelings I had when it was over.  It was almost like a light was shown through my eyes and I thought to myself, 'someone finally got it right.'

I implore any of you to watch this video.  Hopefully it speaks to you as it did to me.

Evolution vs Creationism

It astonishes me that this debate is still relevant in this day and age.  What astonishes me more is that a recent poll showed that 65% of Americans don't believe in the theory of Evolution.  Creationists argue that it's "just a theory."  Okay smartasses, pay attention.  There is another theory you may be familiar with, "the theory of gravitation".  Are you willing to debate this theory?  Probably not, even though there is 100x more imperical evidence that supports Evolution than gravity.

The reason why people don't believe in Evolution is because it isn't written of in the bible.  Well, there is a reason for that.  It's because 2000 years ago, that specific group of humans that wrote the bible, knew next to nothing.  They were really unintelligent and had no knowledge of the universe, science or even basic math.  All they had the ability to do is take stories that they had previously read and heard, tweak them and make them their own.

Over 150 years ago, a man by the name of Charles Darwin took a trip on his boat, The Beagle, and visited a relatively unknown chain of islands known today as the Galapagos Islands.  His findings there were revolutionary.  He discovered that animals mutated to fit their surroundings, this process is called, "Natural Selection."  Since then, this idea of Darwin's got studied and tested with the upmost scrutiny.  Over time the idea transformed into a theory.  One which held a lot of merit until we obtained the ability to study genetics.

Genetics took us from what we were only able to see on the surface and allowed us to explain why certain changes happen in nature.  Why some insects are born to look like other insects.  Why some birds have long beaks/bills and some have shorter ones.

If we get rid of the study of Evolution, we will never find cures or treatments for life threatening diseases.  We need to be able to look at our past before we can concentrate on our future.  The thought that, "god did it" is a serious hinderance to the advancement of the human race.  Remember, it all starts with what we teach our children for they are the future doctors, scientists and politicians that we will need to depend on for not only our own future but generations upon generations after we are gone.

We have videos!!!! Did you remember the beer?

For your viewing pleasure, I have added links to 2 of my favorite YouTube directors.  Thunderf00t and LiberalViewer.  The reason why I chose these to be posted here is because they share many of the same interests as I do when it comes to Politics, Religion and Science.  Hopefully you will find them as entertaining and informative as I have.

It begins

I am going to try to post here daily.  If nothing important comes up or I'm too hungover, don't count on it.
What to expect from my blog:

Everything that will make you laugh, cry or possibly offend you.  I don't care!  This is my chance to say what I really mean.  If you don't like it, they make a special little "X" in the top right corner of the screen for you.  Don't be afraid to use it, you won't hurt my feelings.

If possible, please leave comments and if you find anything particularly funny or perdinant to your life, please pass it on.

Thank you for visiting, until next time.
