Kids.....cute, lovable, expensive as hell

Yesterday on facebook, I asked foir help coming up with ideas for my blog.  One of which was, the price of raising a child.  We all know that kids are expensive, but worth it.  Since I know some people who in the last year or so had either their first or newest child, I thought that I would look into a few things for them.

I didn't realize that the more you make each year, the more your little bundle of joy costs to raise.  If you make under $40,000 a year as a combined 2 parent income, you're sitting on easy street.  Yeah right.  If my figures are right, it will still cost you over $135,000 to raise a child until they are old enough for you to kick them out on their ass and hope they go to college or learn, 'would you like fries with that?'

I stumbled upon a site which seemed really cool.  It actually has a "baby price calculator"

If you are one of the unfortunately ones that make over $100,000 a year, you're looking at $250,000 over 18 years to raise a kid.  In my opinion, that could buy a lot of jet-skis and strippers....I'm just sayin'.

We do this because we want to be able to show the best of ourselves in our offspring.  We never want to be the ones where people say, "child, it looks like nobody loves you." to our kids or, "who told you that?" usually because it's a stupid answer to an easy question.  We have to pamper, preen and press our child into a mold to make ourselves feel good.  By doing so you can see how far that checkbook can stretch and you may learn a few things along the way.  Like, interest on a $1000 title loan is insane.

Even though I joke around I believe that doing whatever it takes to make sure that our children have a happy and bright future is incredibly important.  After all, they ARE going to be running this country when we're old.  As a parting not, remember, take care of your kids, give them the best that you can and don't try to live outside your means.  Don't shop FAO Schwartz on a Wal-Mart budget.

Until next time......
